I provide professional Mental Health and Eating Disorder Therapy and Support for Adults and Children

My Approach

My approach to treatment is grounded in evidence-based practices and is tailored to each individual’s specific needs and goals.

I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship and work collaboratively with my clients to develop a treatment plan that works for them.

I also work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as dietitians and physicians, to provide a comprehensive and coordinated approach to care.

Mental Health Therapy

Having a mental health challenge is part of life and makes us human. Mental health therapy starts with building a trusting and safe relationship where you can open up about your concerns.

Mental health therapy involves talking with a trusted person and can also include creative tools like music, art, pets and nature to assist in opening up, exploring goals and feeling safe.

We discuss your recovery and life goals, big and small, and together develop a plan that meets your needs and helps you achieve your goals.

Eating Disorder Therapy

Society’s culture contributes to the high prevalence of eating disorders, body image and eating concerns. I believe that all bodies and individuals, regardless of size, have value and so much to offer ourselves and others.

I offer individual therapy for adults and workshops for professionals to aid recovery and contribute to a healthy culture where all bodies are valued. Sessions provide a safe space to explore underlying factors to eating disorders and set goals to support recovery and fulfilment in life.

What you can expect

I offer individual therapy sessions for adults experiencing body image, eating concerns or an eating disorder.

Individual work is done in collaboration with the treatment team and aligned with best practice.

Sessions are conducted at the client’s pace and they have a safe space to explore the function of their eating disorder, set realistic goals and have a supportive space as they work towards their goals. Sessions can be done in person or via Zoom.

My Approach

A safe space

In my work as an Accredited Social Worker, I am very concerned about the amount of body image and eating concerns in society. I know how important it is to have a safe space to express these issues and be met with validation and not dismissal. I am only too aware of the impact of having my experience dismissed as I did not “look sick enough”, leading to more distress.

I am passionate about the importance of giving people space to talk about concerns they have with their body image, eating disorders or mental health. I am acutely aware of the need to listen, validate their experience, be alongside them and support them whilst they explore their concerns. As a health professional, it is my responsibility to provide the space clients need, not expect them to meet certain criteria to be heard.

Art therapy helps explore personal issues through painting, drawing, listening to music and using things from nature. It is about the process of making art and no skills are required.

Therapeutic cards are a great tool to open up conversation, share what your experiences of mental health and other struggles are like and facilitate problem solving.

Cards

I am the Lead Author of the “Eating Disorders and Other Shadowy Companions” card deck, designed to help open up and facilitate respectful and productive conversations about eating disorders and other mental illness.

The cards value lived experience and give space for clients to express what it like to live with an eating disorder and/or other mental illness. By validating and acknowledging these experiences, we bridge the gap of isolation and open up opportunities to explore the function of their illness and set goals for recovery.
